Finding a calendar
The easiest way to find calendars is to click on the "Browse Calendars" task. The Browse Calendars
page will present you with a list of popular keywords on the site. Simply click the keywords that relate to your subject to narrow down your choices.
As you select each keyword a list of matching calendars will be displayed below the keyword list. From this list of calendars you can click
on one to display it in more detail or if you are logged in you can click the check-box next to it to subscribe.
Other Information
CalendarData.com provides feeds of calendar events as RSS feeds with xCal data embedded in the entries. Currently
there are few readers that import this and do useful stuff with it but this area will provide information on how to use it, links to specifications
and developer information for RSS based calendar data.
CalendarData.com is 100% free and our goal is to keep it that way*.
Creating a Calendar
There are two ways to create a new calendar- either from scratch, or by importing one from an RSS or ICS feed. To create a new
calendar from scratch, click the "New Calendar" task in the tasks pane on the left. Fill in a name and description for your new calendar and click "Save Edits".
Then you can enter events and keywords for your calendar. Type in each event with a title and a start and end time. If you leave out the time of day
CalendarData will assume that the event is a full-day event. If you leave the end-date empty we will use the same date as the start.
Adding keywords to your calendar is important if you want people to be able to find your calendar. Typical keywords include a city and state, and a topic like
sports, music, art. You can add keywords to other peoples calendars- the keywords that they system shows will be those with the most votes from across
the CalendarData community.
You can also switch your calendar to "Open Edits". In this mode it acts like a "wiki" allowing every registered member of the CalendarData community to add
and edit events in the calendar. The system will keep the history all edits made so if someone abuses this privledge we can fix things back the way they were.
A calendar can also have a "link" and a picture. Please specify the link to the official site or page associated with the calendar. For example
for a calendar of sports events, the link would connect to the organization's official team page and the picture should be the image of the team's logo.
To import a calendar from an RSS/ICS feed, click Import Calendars in the task pane. You will then
be prompted to enter the URL of the calendar feed. CalendarData will then load the feed of events from that URL and show you a sample of the events
to confirm that you have the right data. If the events look right, select "Import" and your calendar will be created. You can then update the name of the calendar
and enter a description and keywords for it.
